My friend Rachel posted on her blog about her kindergarten teacher and it got me thinking about school. (Yes, I can remember that far back 🙂 ). Her post prompted me to look through my old writing files, including much of my poetry I wrote back then. It made me sad to see how much of it was written about lost love and heartache. I was only in junior high and high school for goodness sake! It’s a reminder that back then I was such a lost soul desperately searching for love and acceptance–which eventually I found in alcohol. So happy and grateful that part has changed! What hasn’t changed is my love of writing and expressing life through words.
This particular poem, however, made me laugh. Being a rebel hasn’t really changed so much, and I’m okay with that. 🙂
Getting back to the Friday posts on gratitude that ended when the A to Z Blogging Challenge began. 🙂
The top three things I’m especially grateful for this past week:
1.) Thursday afternoon off work to snuggle up with a light blanket and Roxie (my dog), a cup of tea and a good book while listening to the rain outside.
2.) Lying in the warm softness of my bed with my pen and journal in hand, the house beautifully quiet, knowing everyone is tucked safely in bed, including Roxie asleep at my feet.
3.) A caramel sundae from McDonalds, with extra buttery caramel. Yum! 🙂
Please share what tops your list for the week.
Top three things I’m especially grateful for this week:
1.) A good report from the Hematologist after more than a week of needless worry. Amen!
2.) Taking a nature walk after said news, my heart filled with renewed appreciation for my health, and noticing the little things that bring me joy, like two prairie dogs (yes, I know they’re rodents, but so darn cute), one chasing the other, jumping on him and rolling together in one tangled ball, disentangling and starting the game over again. And over. And over… 🙂
3.) After “studying” gratitude for as long as I have, coming to the realization it’s not a feeling, but a choice. And that’s GREAT news. We have control over our choices, but not always our feelings.
Please share your gratefulness this past week in the comments section. 🙂
Have a beautiful day!
